愛媛県・宇和島市とハワイがひとつになる
えひめ丸メモリアル協会（EMMA）は、愛媛県・宇和島市・ハワイの人々が一体となって
高校生4人を含む日本人乗組員9人の命が奪われたえひめ丸事故の23回目の追悼式典が、
ハワイ時間2024年2月9日（金）午後１時半から午後３時まで
カカアコ・ウォーターフロント・パークにあるえひめ丸メモリアルで行われました。
この悲劇的な事故から数年、亡くなられた方々の追悼と、
新たな絆を築き続けることによる日米関係の維持・強化のために、地域社会は積極的な反応を示してきました。
とEMMAの金子玲奈会長は語ります。
「愛媛とハワイの親善プログラム〜愛媛とハワイの間には、サポーターや後援者によって姉妹校を含む親善プログラムが設立されています。
愛媛県国際交流センターでのハワイ大学学生の夏期インターンシップなどです。
在ホノルル日本国総領事館、ハワイ州、ホノルル市、ホノルル郡、ハワイ大学、ハワイ大学、ハワイ大学の代表者
愛媛県、宇和島市のご遺族、関係者、ボランティア団体などが参列しました。
追悼式では失われた尊い命に黙祷が捧げら、献花が行われました。
Honolulu, Hawai‘i – (January 29, 2024) – The Ehime Maru Memorial Association (EMMA) will be
holding a memorial ceremony to mark the 23rd anniversary of the Ehime Maru accident that
claimed the lives of nine Japanese crew members, including four high school students. The
ceremony will take place on Friday, February 9, 2024 at the Ehime Maru Memorial at Kaka`ako
Waterfront Park (102 Ohe Street, Honolulu, HI 96813) from 1:30pm to 3:00pm.
“In years since this tragic accident, the community has reacted positively to honor the memory
of those who were lost and to maintain and strengthen the U.S.-Japan relations by continuing to
create new ties” said Reyna Kaneko, president of EMMA. “Good will programs between Ehime
and Hawaii have been established by supporters and benefactors which include sister schools,
and the annual summer internship for the University of Hawaii students at the Ehime Prefecture
International Center just to name a few.”
Representatives of the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu and the State of Hawaii, City
and County of Honolulu, bereaved families and officials from Ehime and Uwajima, and volunteer
organizations will be attending the ceremony. During the memorial ceremony, there will be a
moment of silence to honor those precious lives that were lost. In addition, wreaths and flowers
will be presented by various government agencies, organizations, individuals and other
attendees.
