L’ULU GALA RETURNS WITH “AN EVENING OF INDULGENCE”

FEATURING FARM-TO-TABLE CUISINE BY HAWAI‘I’S TOP CHEFS

The gala event will take place at The Courtyards on the Leeward Community College campus and also feature “Jazz Under the Stars” with Noel Okimoto & Dean Taba, a silent auction, raffle, and so much more! Sponsor tables and individual tickets on sale now!

Honolulu, HI – (Wednesday, March 29, 2023) The Leeward Community College Culinary Arts Program is thrilled to welcome you back on campus for L’ulu*, An Evening of Indulgence, their largest fundraiser of the year, on May 6, 2023, 6-9pm. L’ulu, which was paused during the pandemic, has been the program’s pivotal annual community event since its inception in 2008. As the last gala was in 2019, the staff and students are excited to, once again, work alongside some of Hawai‘i’s most notable chefs, as well as local farmers, ranchers, food producers and fisherman to embrace and celebrate food sustainability in our island state.     During the Covid pandemic, the Leeward Culinary Arts Program was not able to hold the L’ulu gala and introduced the popular May Day Lū‘au To-Go and Thanksgiving To-Go fundraising events, as well as Easter Brunch To-Go this year, to help fill the gaps. However, L’ulu has been the primary event to raise funds for student scholarships, program supplies and equipment, and other operations expenses, so the proceeds have been sorely missed the past three years.

    “We are very excited to finally bring L’ulu back,” said Don Maruyama, event chair and Leeward Culinary Arts Program faculty member. “Not only is L’ulu crucial to raise funds for our students and the program, but it provides a unique experience for our students to work with successful

The program is a fusion of hands-on experiences and classroom instruction to develop the skills and confidence essential for a wide range of culinary careers in the industry. * The name L’ulu was created when the event first started in 2008. It pays homage to the ‘ulu (breadfruit) trees on campus, with a little French flair.
