Times Supermarket to Open Hawaii’s First Tokyo Central in Kailua Town

Honolulu, HI, February 19, 2024 – Pan Pacific Retail Management (PPRM) USA and Times Supermarket announce they will close its Kailua Times Supermarket location on March 31st, 2024, and reopen under an exciting new format, Tokyo Central. PPRM USA currently operates seven Tokyo Central locations in California, and the Kailua location will mark its first introduction in Hawaii.

Tokyo Central is an Asian specialty market offering a wide variety of imported Japanese grocery products, including snacks, beverages, ice cream, liquor, toys, houseware, and beauty care products. The store will feature an extensive selection of bentos, sushi, seafood, fresh produce, and Japan-style cuts of meat. While customers will find an assortment of Asian products, the store will continue to offer local favorite grocery items, grab and go snacks, beach supplies, and sought-after gift items.

PPRM USA operates seven Tokyo Central stores, four Marukai stores, and 28 Gelson’s stores throughout California. “We are excited to bring an Asian market back to the Kailua community, which residents have not seen since Don Quijote closed in 2011", said Kazuhiro Matsumoto, President of PPRM USA.

Times Supermarket opened its doors to the Kailua community in 1957. At the time, it was the company’s third location. Today, under the management of PPRM Hawaii, the company includes 17 Times Supermarkets, five Big Save Markets, Shima’s Market, and Fujioka’s Wine Times. PPRM Hawaii also operates three Don Quijote locations and one Marukai store in Hawaii.

The pharmacy inside Times Supermarket Kailua will close under the new format. Tokyo Central plans to continue employing the Kailua Times Supermarket’s current workforce.
